No voice navigation

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• Improper adjustment of the NAVI voice volume
• Car-navigation unit malfunction
• Poor connection of the driver-side front door speaker connector, terminal damage
• Driver-side front door speaker malfunction
• Poor connection of the car-navigation unit connector, terminal damage
• Open or short circuit in driver-side front door speaker wiring harness
Note
• Voice navigation is not available under the following conditions:
- (After destination is set) Route navigation not started
- Driving on a narrow road (road width: 3.3 m {10.9 ft} or more and less than 5.5 m {18.0 ft})

Diagnostic procedure

• Set destination as desired.
• Press the "MENU" button.
• Select "Setup Menu".
• Select "Simulation", then carry out the simulation.
• Does the voice navigation function activate during simulation?
Yes
The system is normal.
No
Go to the next step.

• Press the "MENU" button.
• Select the "Setup Menu".
• Select the "System Setup".
• Select the "Volume", and verify the voice navigation value.
• Is the voice navigation volume at "0"?
Yes
Adjust the volume from "1" to "4", then repeat Step 1.
No
Go to the next step.

• Turn the audio power switch (CD, MD, radio) to ON.
• Does the driver-side front door speaker work?
Yes
Replace the car-navigation control unit. (See CAR-NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
No
Go to the next step.

• Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Remove the driver-side front door speaker. (See FRONT DOOR SPEAKER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
• Inspect the connection of the driver-side front door speaker connector (2-pin).
• Disconnect the driver-side front door speaker connector (2-pin).
• Inspect both the driver-side front door speaker and wiring harness-side connector for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled-out pins, corrosion).
• Are all the pins normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
If poor connection of driver-side front door speaker connector:
Securely connect the driver-side front door speaker connector.
If the driver-side front door speaker side connector is wrong:
Replace the driver-side front door speaker. (See FRONT DOOR SPEAKER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
If the wiring harness-side connector is wrong:
Repair or replace the pins and/or the connector.

• Remove the car-navigation unit. (See CAR-NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
• Inspect the connection of the car-navigation unit connector (16-pin).
• Disconnect the car-navigation unit connector (16-pin).
• Inspect both the car-navigation unit and wiring harness-side connector terminal M and N for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled-out pins, corrosion).
• Are all the pins normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
If poor connection of car-navigation unit connector:
Securely connect the car-navigation unit connector.
If the car-navigation unit side connector is wrong:
Replace the car-navigation unit. (See CAR-NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
If the wiring harness-side connector is wrong:
Repair or replace the pins and/or the connector.

• Inspect for continuity between car-navigation unit and the driver-side front door speaker.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness.

• Inspect the driver-side front door speaker. (See FRONT DOOR SPEAKER INSPECTION)
• Is it normal?
Yes
Replace the car-navigation unit. (See CAR-NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
No
Replace the driver-side front door speaker. (See FRONT DOOR SPEAKER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
