ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR INSPECTION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)]
Visual Inspection
1. Remove the APP. (SeeACCELERATOR PEDAL (APP) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)
2. Verify that there are no metal shavings on the sensor.
3. Visually inspect the APP sensor for the following:
- • Damage
- • Cracks
- • Rusted sensor terminal
- • Bent sensor terminal
- - If there is any malfunction, replace the APP. sensor. (SeeACCELERATOR PEDAL (APP) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)
4. Install the APP. (SeeACCELERATOR PEDAL (APP) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)
Voltage Inspection
1. Connect the oscilloscope to the accelerator pedal connector terminal E and body ground.
2. Turn the engine switch to the ON position (Engine off).
3. Verify that the duty ratio at terminal E changes while operating the accelerator pedal as shown in the graph.
APP sensor duty ratio (reference)
Resistance Inspection
1. Disconnect the APP sensor connector.
2. Measure the resistance between terminal A and C.
Circuit Open/Short Inspection
1. Remove the PCM connector cover.
2. Disconnect the PCM connector. (See PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)
3. Inspect the following wiring harness for an open or short circuit (continuity check).
Open circuit
- • If there is no continuity, there is an open circuit. Repair or replace the wiring harness.
- - APP sensor terminal A and instrument cluster terminal 2X
- - APP sensor terminal B and instrument cluster terminal 2T
- - APP sensor terminal C and instrument cluster terminal 2R
- - APP sensor terminal D and ground
- - APP sensor terminal E and PCM terminal 310
- - APP sensor terminal F and PJB terminal Q
Short circuit
- • If there is continuity, there is a short circuit. Repair or replace the wiring harness.
- - APP sensor terminal A and power supply
- - APP sensor terminal A and body ground
- - APP sensor terminal B and power supply
- - APP sensor terminal B and body ground
- - APP sensor terminal C and power supply
- - APP sensor terminal C and body ground
- - APP sensor terminal D and power supply
- - APP sensor terminal D and body ground
